With Braithwaite's exit to Barcelona, Leagnés, who had already lost En-Nesyri to Sevilla before, have been left with great shortcomings upfront. According to the club, the RFEF have already notified them that they won't be able to sign a replacement.
The announcement comes after the club had already tied down a new player from another team. In the end and after the news from the organisation, the deal will not get done and Leganés won't be able to get anyone.
But, why can't they do it? The rules state that teams who lose players due to their release clause will have an extra month to sign a replacement, but only if the player is sold during the transfer window.
The Braithwaite deal was done after the window had closed due to the long term injury of Dembélé, which allowed Barca to get a deal done outside the window. This only confirms that Aguirre will have to pull out all the stops to orchestrate the attack of his Leganés side.
Leganés informed of the situation in a text that they made public through their social media channels. This clarifies that the federal entity is based on the fact that there is no applicable regulation that enables and can allow the application, while arguing that, if it does, it could give rise to a chain of transfers outside the registration period.
According to the RFEF, this would cause notable damage to the integrity of the competition and the fairness of the teams taking part. Moreover, the organisation explained to them that the consultation was submitted to FIFA and a negative response was also received. FIFA will work to remove article 124.3 of its General Regulations, which allows for the possibility of signing because of long-term injuries.
"Leganés reaffirms that we are faced with unfair regulations, which undermine the integrity of the competition and the right of all clubs to compete on equal terms, and which have caused enormous and serious damage to the club", the statement concluded.
