British publication 'The Sun' has claimed that the midfielder could feature in Jose Mourinho's plans next season, with the Portuguese seeing Kovacic as a player who could easily adapt to the demands of the Premier League.
The Croatia international has struggled for a starting spot over three seasons, given the wealth of talent that Real Madrid have in midfield with Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro.
In addition, the 24-year-old has already announced his intention to feature more heavily next season, whether with the Champions League champions or elsewhere.
Upon hearing Kovacic's comments, Manchester United would have been on high alert and evaluated the possibility of launching a bid for him after the World Cup, since Kovacic will be distracted with international duties.
The midfielder is facing a rather big dilemma. He knows that he has not enough minutes due to the intense competition for a starting spot in 'Los Blancos', but also knows that he has a long future ahead if he remains with them.
Last season, Kovacic played in 36 games for the Spanish outfit although for the large majority he featured as a substitute. In fact, he tallied up 1,823 minutes last season, which is less than his 2,133 minutes the season before.
