As Madrid have stated before, Varane is not for sale. Neither the Frenchman's poor season or the arrival of Eder Miltao have led Zinedine Zidane to lose confidence in the player.
During the season, his name was indeed linked with a summer exit. However, Zidane returned and Varane insisted again that his future lies in Madrid. Despite this, United haven't lost faith in signing him.
In fact, the 'Daily Star' have reported that United have once again returned to the race to sign him, as they also look to bring in Napoli's Koulibaly and Leicester's Maguire - although a move for any of these defenders will be complicated.
Varane's signing seems almost impossible, with Madrid unwilling to even listen to offers for the 26 year-old. His only possible escape route could be his eye-watering 500 million Euro release clause.
"I'll still be here next year. I'm sure we're going have a good season. We have to improve and Zidane is clear. We have to reinvent ourselves, we have to change things" Varane said to Marca recently. His future seems destined to be at the Bernabéu.
