Real Madrid went into this game on the back of 13 games unbeaten and needed to win this game to go top of the La Liga table, ahead of Barcelona, who play later on tonight. Getafe needed the three points to put themselves in the Champions League places.
Bale Isco and Varane were all named in Zidane's starting line up as Valverde was benched.
As the game got underway it was soon clear to see that Courtois was the hero for Real Madrid, with some fine saves to stop the home side from going infront. Getafe really got into the game and produced some attacking threats. Cabrera put the ball into the box from the left and Arambarri had a shot at goal, but Courtois' great save prevented them from taking the lead.
The first goal came in the 33rd minute. The initial ball from the free kick went wide and was cleared out of the box, but Varane was there waiting as Mendy crossed it back in and managed to get level with the keeper and get his head on the ball, a slow ball into the back of the net, but a goal nonetheless to put Madrid in front just over the half an hour mark!
The half time whistle blew and Real Madrid went away the happier of the two sides. Varane's goal was the difference in the break and Madrid were a real attacking threat in the first half.
Not long into the second half and the second goal came (52 minutes). Varane got a brace, as Kroos passed him the ball into the box, who jumped higher than everyone else and got his head on the ball, slotting it just above the keeper and into the back of the net.
After this, Getafe did not really look like they would get a goal and were not much of a threat. Real Madrid had all the power and confidence and controlled the game well after this point.
6 minutes of added time was called and there was a bit of late action! Luka Modric made it three just before the final whistle. He made a run down the pitch with Valverde running with him with the ball on the left wing, they made their way into the box, where Fede Valverde just slipped the ball across for Modric, who did not fail to put it in the back of the net.
The final whistle blew and the game ended Getafe 0-3 Real Madrid. Madrid secure the three points with three goals. Getafe were rather poor in the game and didn't really look convincing, especially not in front of goal. Madrid are now top of the La Liga table and are well and truly keeping Barcelona on their toes.
