If the 'Gers' avoid defeat against the Russian outfit, they will reach 11 successive European matches unbeaten in the same season, surpassing Walter Smith's side's record of 1992/3.
Gerrard wants his side to focus on remaining top of the group rather than looking at records, and insisted his players are not yet legends of the calibre of those in 1992/3.
Questioned on the chance to write his name in the history books, Gerrard remarked: "I wasn't aware of that stat. It's news to me, to be honest.
"Milestones like that are always nice, but it's not our focus.
"And listen, we're not ready to be spoken about in the same breath as successful teams in the past.
"We are nowhere near ready to be put on a par with teams like that. We cannot be spoken about in the same breath as that. We have a long, long way to go.
"We are on the back of a nice run in Europe. We need to protect that and try and extend it for as long as possible. But in terms of putting us back alongside teams of ten years ago or 20 years ago then we're not ready for that yet."
