Euros, Olympic Games, Copa America... Football fans will have no time to miss European football this summer. And it's great news for some, but not so much for the player's clubs, who might have to deal with some of their stars not getting enough rest for the next season.
The situation is very delicate, as interests are very much at odds. National teams want to fill the three places of players over 23 with their best talents; but clubs are reluctant letting their players go and have them miss pre-season commitments. And some players are clearly positioned to enjoy a unique opportunity.
There are cases such as Sergio Ramos and Pique, who, despite the heavy schedule and the fact that they are 33 years old, want to play both the European Championship and the Tokyo event.
But there's more: Jurgen Klopp has publicly stated he does not want Liverpool's Egyptian star Mo Salah to go; the same goes for the club's Brazilian players. Meanwhile, there's pressure on both sides, as the president of the French Football Federation has made statements about wanting Kylian Mbappe in his ranks.
And it seems the club who will suffer the biggest losses is Real Madrid. Besides Ramos, Zidane's team could lose up to four of their star Brazilian players: Renier, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Eder Militao.
In the last Olympic Games, the same issue arose with the likes of Leo Messi and Neymar.
