TEAM NEWS
PSV: The hosts will be without New Zealand international midfielder Ryan Thomas, who is expected to be out long term with a knee problem, but other than that manager Mark Van Bommel has a fully-fit squad from which to choose.
Tottenham: The Premier League outfit continue to be without midfielder Dele Alli (hamstring) and left-back Danny Rose (groin), whilst Jan Vertonghen (also hamstring) is also expected to be sidelined for another couple of months at least. However, there is some good news for Mauricio Pochettino as christian Eriksen and Moussa Dembele returned to action in the win over West Ham at the weekend, with a late decision set to be made on whether they are ready to start of if they will be made to do with a place on the bench.
WHO IS SAYING WHAT?
PSV boss Mark Van Bommel:
"We had good spells in our previous two games but yet suffered defeat. Whether we face a first tough test and an examination of our capacities? I don’t think so. The opening two opening group B games were not exactly friendlies, either, but we realise that defeat will virtually leave us on the brink of being unable to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
“Pochettino has been in charge of Tottenham Hotspur for many years and has side has performed consistently.
"All big clubs in Europe face the same problem. Spurs have had an injury-hit summer, also due to the fixture list congestion but they are still able to play some good football. I think Tottenham can hold their own against Barcelona and Inter Milan.”
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino:
"I think Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen still out. Christian Eriksen is fit to be selected and we’ll see tomorrow if he to play from the start of the game or from the bench.
"My approach is always to win. Today playing professional football is about playing under stress and I don’t believe tomorrow will be any different.
"It’s true that it’s difficult to always feel like you’re playing away from home. We’re managing things that sure in the future will be completely different. When I signed my new contract we expected a tough period, but it is tougher than we believe.
"I think it’s a big challenge [the fixture pile-up] for different reasons. Of course I think it’s natural for us to try to put all our power and all our quality to try to manage in the best way. The situations that happen in the summer with the World Cup with not too much holidays and then you start to compete. For us it’s a massive, massive challenge because all the things that happened in the start of the season are different to the start of the last one."
