The Paris Saint-Germain were defeated on their visit to Borussia Dortmund in the run-up to the Champions League Round of 16. After missing out on the Parisian team's last few matches through injury, Neymar was on the green of Signal Iduna Park.
The Brazilian scored the only goal of Thomas Tuchel's team in the match against the German team and, after the final whistle, on his way through the mixed zone, his statements caused quite a stir.
Neymar said he was in a position to help his team in the matches he missed and that it was the club's coaching staff that prevented him from playing.
The 28-year-old striker also tried to defuse the tension with an image on his social media account, but the statement had already made headlines and the club's doctors, upset, decided to take action.
"If the doctors had given their approval to see Neymar play and he gets injured, what would they have said," said an internal PSG source, as reported by 'RMC Sports'.
After an internal meeting, Tuchel himself said he would have liked to have the player for the French Cup match against Dijon: "It wasn't my decision, it wasn't the player's decision, it was the medical decision."
Furthermore, following the above-mentioned media, it is believed that the medical department in Paris was unable to make such a decision on its own, against the advice of the player and the German coach, and there is speculation that such a determination was made by some of the PSG leadership.
