In all there have been 27 meetings between these two nations, with Sweden winning 15, Poland eight and four draws. Poland's last win was a friendly in August 1991, Wojciech Kowalczyk and Miroslaw Trzeciak on target.

Poland's last competitive match was a home defeat to Hungary back in November, and only four players who started that game also start this evening. Szczesny, Cash, Bednarek and Moder are the quartet retained from that fixture, which was effectively a dead rubber, so a lot of players were rested.
