Van de Beek was not at his best last season at Old Trafford. That has led to speculation about his future.
Despite having a contract until 2025, United would be willing to listen to offers for him. In fact, they are even considering the option of including him in the 'Varane deal' to convince Madrid.
But there is still hope for Van de Beek's future at United. That at least is clear from the words of coach Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer to the Mirror.
"You don't know what United is until you've scored in front of the fans," Solskjaer told the British newspaper. He believes that, with the return of the home crowd, the best Van de Beek could make an appearance at the 'Theatre of Dreams'.
Last season, Van de Beek made 36 appearances, but only started 15 of them. He scored one goal and provided two assists, a far cry from what he was used to at Ajax. In his best season in the Eredivisie, during 2018-19, he scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists.
In any case, his future could ultimately depend on what Paul Pogba does. If the French midfielder finally opts to leave United, the club could give the former Ajax man a full role. The market is still long and anything can happen.
