Pogba has struggled this season, dropping below Scott McTominay in the pecking order for a while and largely failing to live up to the £89m fee that the 'Red Devils' paid Juventus for his services back in 2016.
Recent reports have linked the French international with a sensational return to Turin, but Keane insists that the 25-year-old is by no means a lost cause and that the club simply need to recruit correctly to get the best out of him.
"I like him, I think he's a good player, a good kid," Keane said. "He probably needs better help around him, good influences around the training ground.
"I was the luckiest man on the planet when I was a player, I always had good lads around me, senior players who led by example. Pogba probably doesn't have that at United.
"He's a good player. Would he feel he could have had a better season? Probably.
"Usually the good players are quite critical of themselves. When you play for Man United and you don't win a trophy you probably would be critical of yourself."
