Eden Hazard and Paul Pogba are currently the most talked about players in Real Madrid, as the team is eager to end the season, which has been forgettable to say the least. The squad needs some changes, and Zidane's affiity for Pogba is gaining ground, as he's always shown his predilection for the Manchester United midfielder.
But his signing will not be easy. Manchester United do not want their star player to go, and to add to the difficult signing, Real Madrid would have to deal with the player's salary one way or another. According to 'AS', the frenchman currently earns 17 million euros net per season, a considerable amount that would make him the best paid player in the current Real Madrid squad. That is, if Real Madrid decides to keep his current salary.
According to the same source, Gareth Bale perceives 15 million euros, while Sergio Ramos, the captain, earns 11.8 million. Pogba's salary would break records if the transfer goes through and the salary is not lowered.
If this step was taken, Madrid would place the Frenchman as their main figure for a new project. The Spanish giants were left without their star Cristiano Ronaldo, and with Bale making a more and more plausible exit, Pogba could take the reins of a new era in the Santiago Bernabéu.
Another option, and one that seems more feasible, is for the former Juventus midfielder to agree to lower his salary and do his part to allow United to let him go once the season is over. Mino Raiola, the player's agent, will also be vital in the negotiations.
One way or another, Zidane seems to want Pogba as the epicentre of his new project. His wish, however, could cost them more than they hope.
