In the last few years, John Benjamin Toshack has worked hard to criticise Gareth Bale. The former Real Madrid coach has been the hardest on his fellow Welshman, who he has constantly slated for not having learnt Spanish.
In an interesting chat with 'Libero', where he reviewed several unknown moments in his career as a coach, Toshack also wanted to criticise the Real Madrid attacker. Perhaps to wait for a response from a footballer to whom he came to manage in the past and who seems totally off-centre at the moment.
"Bale does not play the game anymore. He still gets five minutes closer to the game, but he doesn't play. And then, suddenly, he makes a run and goes back. It's as if you are playing with 10 men. He is very individualist," Toshack started.
The former Wales coach regretted that he is not able to play from the start, like he did when he emerged in England. "I remember Bale making fouls. He was a Southampton player, a left-back and it was good for us because he came in like a bullet. He has an abnormal talent, he debuted with me in the national team when he was 17," the coach said.
Finally, he complained again that he could not speak any Spanish: "I never had any Spanish classes. People said that I spoke bad, but, little by little, by speaking, reading, trying... If you are in a country for six years like he is, my opinion is that he should speak the language. I want to know what he thinks a lot of the time and I cannot."
