Pirlo rests Ronaldo for weekend match
Andrea Pirlo has decided to leave Cristiano Ronaldo out of the squad for the match against Benevento. The Juventus manager has opted to rest the Portuguese, aware of the demanding round of matches ahead.
The Italian's pulse has not wavered, as he shows off leadership by making an important decision to leave the attacker out a squad. Pirlo doesn't want to force Ronaldo, who has played everything since he recovered from the coronavirus at the start of the month.
Since he returned on 1st November in the second half of Spezia v Juventus, the number 7 has played 604 minutes between 8 Serie A, Champions League and Nations League matches. In them he has scored 7 goals and got 2 assists.
This decision wouldn't have been easy at all for a manager years ago, but Ronaldo has been understanding better with time the need to go easy on someone. Zinedine Zidane already managed it and now he is also convinced by someone like Andrea Pirlo.
The absence of Ronaldo against Benevento because of a managerial decision has raised even more of a stir than the return of Leonardo Bonucci. Curiously, only Dybala and Morata remain on the list as forwards, who will be partners in attack on Saturday (18:00).
