Barca's worst fears were confirmed and Gerard Pique will be out for several months. The central defender has a serious knee injury which, bearing in mind his edad, could well lead to it being almost the end of his career.
The first signs of alarm came out during the match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Correa fell on Pique accidentally and the central defender was lying on the field in evident signs of pain.
The club did not announcement how long he will be out for, but Barcelona announced news of the serious injury this Sunday. The Catalans just said that his time of absence will depend on his recovery. Pique has damage to both his MCL and his ACL and will be out for some time.
The club statement is the following: "Tests carried out this Sunday on Gerard Pique have shown that he has a grade 3 sprain in the internal lateral ligament and partial injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The evolution of the injury will condition his availability."
It is the footballer's first major injury in his career and he could be out for four to six months and now Ronald Koeman will have to decide whether he decides to play Araujo or whether he opts for moving De Jong back into defence. He could also try and bring back Umtiti even though that seems difficult.
The club also confirmed that Sergi Roberto, who can play right back or central midfield, will be out for two months after tearing a muscle in his thigh.
