Following Sunday's disappointing 2-0 loss to Liverpool, in which the away side easily dismantled the Saints, Mauricio Pellegrino has insisted that there is no need to worry after his team slipped into the relegation zone.
"We are in one situation, but we have to keep going, keep fighting," the Argentine told 'Sky Sports.'
"We understand the emotion of the fans, everything in the Premier League is tight and everything changes. I am convinced we have got good pace to try to win the next game. It will be long until the end, we have to be there, recover our mentality and in football everything can change in two or three weeks," he added.
Southampton have only claimed one victory in their last 14 Premier League matches and on Sunday they were behind after just six minutes after Salah latched on to a defensive error by Wesley Hoedt and teed up Firmino who finished tidily.
Liverpool then went on to double their lead just before the break. This time the two strikers swapped roles as Firmino split Saints' defense with a masterful back-heel to put Salah through on goal. The Egyptian was clinical, just like he's been all season.
Pellegrino admits that the two-goal deficit was too much for his side who suffered in the second-half: "The second-half was really bad. Overall the anxiety was really high, we were not calm and gave the ball away all of the time."
Next up for Saints is an FA Cup tie with struggling West Brom. Pellegrino will be desperate for a win to inject some confidence back into his side and to cease speculation about his future at the club.
