Pedri won't need surgery despite 8th injury in two-and-a-half years

In the absence of Barcelona carrying out the relevant medical tests on Pedri Gonzalez, the club's medical staff estimate that he will not have to undergo surgery. This is the information reported by 'RAC1' shortly after the former Las Palmas player suffered a new injury to his right thigh. He hurt it during the visit to Athletic on Sunday night.

Although avoiding surgery is good news for Xavi Hernandez, who should be able to count on him again in this closing stages of the season, the midfielder has been treated by the doctors much more than his status requires. This is his eighth injury in a matter of two and a half years. The problems started after that 2020-21 campaign in which he took the field around 60 times.

It was his first year in Barcelona and the year of his breakthrough with the Spanish national team, which called him up for both the European Championship with the senior team and the Olympic Games with the Under-23s. The Gran Canarian accumulated a fatigue that encouraged the Barcelona board to give him more holidays than the rest of the squad before the start of the 21-22 period, but, after two seasons, the feeling is that care like this has not been enough.

The first muscle injury in this series came in September 2021, against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. It was in the left quadriceps. This zone gave him problems again against Benfica in the same season, when the left femoral biceps forced him to take a break against Eintracht. In the 23-24 season, the right rectus femoris stopped him against Manchester United, he spent some time with discomfort after the derby at the RCDE Stadium, suffered again from the right rectus femoris during a training session and suffered another injury while training at Barcelona's training complex in December.
