Pedri and Ferran Torres will be available for Barcelona's match against Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. On the morning of Monday 10th January, both footballers have tested positive for coronavirus, a result which has left them out of Xavi Hernandez's squad, but, a few hours later, the Catalans confirmed that they had got over the virus.
"First team players Pedri and Ferran Torres have tested negative for COVID-19 in the PCR test and they will soon join up with the rest of the squad in Riyadh. The club have reported the news to the relevant authorities," reads the text which appears on Barca's social media channels. They also included a photo of both players.
This good news for Barcelona comes just in time. It also occurs on the same day Samuel Umtiti renewed until 2026 and that was crucial as it allowed them to register Ferran Torres. The Spaniard recently joined the club from Man City. Spreading the Frenchman's salary out over a longer period of time was key to them being able to register Ferran Torres.
The Spanish midfielder, who won Golden Boy 2021, has been out for a few months, first after being rested due to a packed season last term, then an injury and now COVID-19. There is lots of excitement over his return and even more so if it occurs in 'El Clasico'.
