Barcelona will end the season with a trip to Unai Emery's Villarreal at the Camp Nou. The match will be played this Sunday at 22:00 CEST.
The Catalan side will be able to enjoy watching Pau Torres, a player who has been on Barca's agenda several times. What is more, according to 'Mundo Deportivo', they ended up having his signing completed.
It all occurred in 2018. Back then, the central defender was 21. He was playing for the Villarreal B team and, on occasions, the first team were calling him up.
Robert Fernandez was the technical secretary back then. He saw him play, he fell in love with the young Villarreal player and agreed a move with him for 25 million euros.
Then why was Pau Torres never a Barca player? The previously cited media outlet says that, at that moment, Eric Abidal took over as technical secretary and no more progress was made on the move.
Villarreal are delighted with Pau Torres, whose contract runs until 2024. Despite the fact big clubs like Tottenham have been following him closely, he always said that he is happy at the club he has given his all at and, at least for now, he is not thinking of a move away.
