Borussia Dortmund are once again showing they like young players. Even though Felix Passlack has hardly had chances for the first team this season, the young defender has renewed for another two seasons.
He has made 13 appearances, five of them as a starter, after being away from Dortmund in the last three seasons. He burst onto the scene in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons at the age of 18 and he had a bright future ahead of him.
But he could not build on that. There was no place for him in the first team and so he went on several loan deals. He did not do well at Hoffenheim and Norwich, but he did last term at Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands.
He returned to Dortmund at the age of 22 (he will be 23 at the end of May) and he is still struggling to get into the team. Despite that, he has reached an agreement with the club to extend his contract until June 2023. He is a player for the future and both parties know that.
"We had been negotiating for a while and we are delighted to have reached an agreement. Felix is a son of our region and has very close ties to BVB," sporting director Michael Zorc said.
