Panama's friendlies against Martinique and Guadalupe next week have been cancelled. Panama are now looking for new opponents, the Panamanian FA announced (FEPAFUT).
"Due to the expanding of restrictions on entering France and its overseas territories from 18th January, the friendlies that Panama were doing to play against Martinique and Guadalupe on 19th and 22nd January respectively have been called off," the statement read.
"The French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, announced that due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, the decision has been made to order a seven day quarantine on European citizens who want to enter France as well the closure of borders to high risk countries like Panama."
Panama has a population of 4.2 million and has had 296,269 cases of COVID-19. There have also been 4,738 deaths. There was a sharp increase two months ago which led to record figures and the country with the second highest rate of coronavirus on the continent.
The Martinque football league told FEPAFUT about the French Government's decision and apologised to Panama for the decision which is out of their control.
"The director of national teams, Christian Nunez, will keep Thomas Christensen's Panama side together because of the possibility of getting new opponents in the coming days," the Panamanian FA said.
