'The Guardian' reports that Palace would prefer to spend that quantity of money on several players rather than just one.
Instead of Sakho, Palace are understood to be interested in Ajax's Dutch pair Joel Veltman and Kenny Tete. The latter has reportedly been allowed to leave Ajax's Austrian training camp to discuss potential moves.
The same source speculates that the pair would cost in excess of £10m, though that is still a big reduction on what Sakho would cost them.
The strange side of the story is that both players are right-backs, with Veltman effectively keeping Tete out of the Ajax team last season, though Veltman can also play at centre-back.
Veltman was a key player for the Dutch side last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions. Tete's season on the other hand was more stop-start, making 23 appearances in all competitions, with just 5 in the Eredivisie.
