Mesut Ozil has entered the Premier League history books. The former player - who yesterday announced his immediate retirement from professional football - marked a seven-season spell in north London.
According to the Premier League, the German of Turkish descent is the player with the most goalscoring chances created in a single season in the history of the English Football League. More specifically, 146 with the Gunners in 2015/16 season.
Mesut Ozil leads the ranking, which he shares with four other players. Kevin de Bruyne is second (136 in 2019-20), Frank Lampard completes the podium (134 in 2008-09) and Dimitri Payet (119 in 2015-16) and Florent Malouda (118 in 2010-11) complete the list.
Indeed, that statistic came in the season in which Leicester City produced the greatest Premier League epic of the century by winning the title 10 points clear of second-placed Arsenal under Arsene Wenger.
Mesut Ozil won six trophies at the Emirates Stadium side. Two Community Shields - 2015 and 2016 - and four FA Cups - 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2020. He was also runner-up in the 2018-19 Europa League, which Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea won 4-1 in the final in Baku.
