Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi returned to Portugal on Tuesday and said he was "happy" after winning the World Cup. He admitted that he is "focused on Benfica" and refused to answer any other questions about his future.
"I'm happy and focused on Benfica," Otamendi said. The former Velez player responded that he is "only thinking about the match with Braga" in the Portuguese League when he was asked about a possible renewal.
His contract expires at the end of the season and the Portuguese team are expected to renew him as they want him to continue playing for them. The former Manchester City defender has been at Benfica since 2020 and is a key player in the team.
Otherwise, River Plate have already publicly shown their interest in signing the defender, as several clubs are keeping an eye on him for his performances with Argentina.
