It was an almost perfect weekend for 'Los Cules'. They thrashed Sevilla 5-0 to win the Copa del Rey and saw their rivals Atletico Madrid draw a blank against Real Betis to move them one point off securing the league crown.
Winning the double would top off an almost perfect year for the Catalan giants, one which has seen them beat the league's long-standing unbeaten record to go 39 games undefeated so far.
The only blemishes on their campagin are the Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid at the beginning of the year and the disappointing Champions League exit at the hands of Roma, who overturned an incredible three-goal deficit in the quarter-finals.
It is that elimination though which has cast the biggest shadow over the season, one which has also brought doubts over the capabilities of head coach Ernesto Valverde.
However, with four doubles in the past ten years and three of those coming in the last four, it would still be a successful season for 'Los Cules'. Although their main test will come next season in the Champions League as they look to put that disappointment squarely in their past.
