OFFICIAL: Spain top FIFA rankings for first time in 11 years

The reigning European champions, Spain, have risen to the summit of the FIFA world rankings, a position they haven't held since June 2014.
Spain, who were second in the previous rankings, now lead the way with 1875.37 points, ahead of France (1870.92), who also leapfrog Argentina (1870.32), who had been top since April 2023 and now sit in third place.
In the top ten, Portugal also climb one place to fifth, as do Croatia, now ninth, and Italy, in tenth. These three nations benefit from Brazil's slide to sixth, having been fifth in the previous rankings.
Germany have dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since October 2023. The German national team fall three places to twelfth, penalised by their 2-0 defeat to Slovakia in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, where they currently sit third in their group behind Slovakia and Northern Ireland.
Morocco also move up one place to eleventh, having won eight of their nine matches since the last rankings were released in July. Slovakia's ten-place jump is the most significant rise in terms of places gained.
In addition to their win over Germany, Slovakia also defeated Luxembourg and have returned to the top 50. Canada, co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup, move up two places to 26th, achieving their highest ranking since the list's inception in 1993, alongside Kosovo (91st, +4).
For the rankings published this Thursday, FIFA took into account 200 international matches, including those from the ongoing World Cup qualifying stages for the 2026 tournament in USA, Mexico, and Canada. In these qualifiers, Spain lead their group after a 3-0 victory over Bulgaria and a 6-0 thrashing of Turkey. Their next matches will be at home against Georgia and Bulgaria next month.
