It took Chelsea just one day to disrupt their London neighbours' plans. After weeks of Mykhaylo Mudryk being linked with Arsenal, it finally looked like the Gunners had secured his arrival for around 90 million euros. However, Graham Potter's side appeared out of nowhere to overtake Arteta's side in the race for the young Ukrainian star.
It looks like it was a no-brainer for the Blues to land the winger from Shakhtar. First it was reported that the Stamford Brigde board had travelled to Poland to negotiate a move for the player. Just a few hours later more transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chelsea were close to reaching a verbal agreement with the Ukrainian club for around 100 million euros.
Shortly after this, Shakhtar Donetsk announced on Twitter via a statement that they were close to reaching an agreement for his transfer to Chelsea. "FC Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov and Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali discussed Mykhailo Mudryk’s transfer to Chelsea FC today. Parties are very close to agree on player’s transfer to the club".

After the player's club announced that the two sides were close to agreeing a deal for the 22-year-old winger, the Blues began asking their fans on social media sites such as Instagram to send their love to what was almost certainly going to be their star signing of the winter transfer window a few hours later.
Chelsea finally announced on Twitter that Mudryk was joining the London club after agreeing a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for around 100 million euros. The promising young Ukrainian had made 24 appearances for his club so far this season, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists, as well as putting in superb performances against top clubs such as Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Graham Potter's side beat the Gunners in this special 'London derby', but the Blues would like to match the incredible run the Emirates Stadium side are on. While Arsenal find themselves at the top of the Premier League table, the Stamford Bridge side find themselves in tenth place, having won just one of their last nine games.
The west London side's hopes undoubtedly lie with Joao Felix, who has arrived until the end of the season on loan from Atletico Madrid for 10 million euros, and young winger Mudryk, who will try to win over the fans of his new team with his dribbling and attacking potential.
