It is now official. The purchase of CD Tacon has ben confirmed by the members. We can now say that Real Madrid will have a women's team next season.
The Real Madrid members voted overwhelmingly in favour in the club's Extraordinary Assembly. 810 people voted in favour, 44 against and 40 abstained after an intense morning. The majority of those present applauded the decision to take over Tacon.
Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid president, responded loud and clear to the members' questions on CD Tacon: "This is the team which is best placed to start from scratch. But the fact one of the members is the brother of a Real Madrid player isn't going t be a problem (referring to Sergio Ramos)."
"And of course we are going to invest. It is the ideal club to start. And I am now told that Rene Ramos is not a club member there, so better," Perez added.
"Women's played by women is an undeniable fact. It's growing and is unstoppable. It's growing spectacularly. Real Madrid must form part of this global phenomenon. Real Madrid must also have their own team," the President continued.
"We have analysed all the options, focussing on grassroots. Therefore, we thought Tacon was the best option because they have a good academy structure. Also because of their recent promotion because it allows us to play in the top flight. They also don't have commercial commitments which could hinder the development of our team," he added.
"It has cost us 300,000 euros to buy Tacon. From here on in, we will set up a structure. You mustn't worry about transparency. No football club gives as much information as us. You will have all the information like you do with all our teams. This club is the best placed to start from scratch and of course we are going to invest," Florentino concluded.
