Good news for Paris-Saint Germain regarding the club's future. Those at the Parc des Princes announced this Friday the renewal of head coach Mauricio Pochettino until June 2023.
The apparent tensions between Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo that appeared at the beginning of summer have clearly been left behind. With this new commitment they signed have signed a form of peace treaty and are looking ahead to the future.
Pochettino arrived in the French capital on 2nd January 2021 to replace Thomas Tuchel. Despite not being able to lead PSG to the coveted Champions League or even Ligue 1 success, the club's confidence in the Argentine is emphatic.
"I'm really very happy, and I am for my staff as well. It's very important for us to feel the support and confidence of the club, and we will do all we can to make the fans feel proud of us", Pochettino assured regarding his renewal.
The PSG boss assured that he is looking between short and long-term. "I hope to be able to achieve our goals together. 20 years ago I was the captain here, and now I am the coach of this team. It's a dream come true", he added.
President of the French club Nasser Al-Khelaifi had his say on the news: "We are happy that Mauricio is continuing his adventure as a part of the Paris Saint-Germain family. Having been the captain 20 years ago, he shares the same value, ambition and vision as the club for the future."
The owner higlighted "Mauricio's leadership", adding: "We are excited about and certain of what the future holds for us."
It's an important renewal in the PSG's ranks, but is not the only one they need to face up to. The club are hoping to keep hold of Kylian Mbappe, even if the player told Pochettino himself that he doesn't plan to renew his contract.
