What was all but official is now official: Thomas Meunier has signed for Borussia Dortmund. He arrives as a free agent after his decision not to renew with PSG and he pens a deal until June 2024.
After big offers from some of European's biggest clubs, the Belgian chose the German outfit. "Borussia Dortmund play football exactly how I like to play: exciting, authentic and natural. They are know for their enthusiastic supporters," he said.
Meunier also confessed that he ended up deciding after PSG's recent Champions League last 16 tie with Dortmund: "The atmosphere during the PSG match at Signal Iduna Park influenced my decision, to be honest. I'm ambitious and, like at Brugge at PSG, I'd like to win titles at Borussia Dortmund."
The arrival of Meunier is a good move by the German outfit as they will lose Achraf this summer after the end of his two year loan deal from Real Madrid. They did everything possible to keep him. Even though a return is not completely out of the question, Dortmund's determination to sign him makes clear that there is not much hope in getting the player.
The sporting director Michael Zorc was full of praoise for the 28 year-old fullback: "He's a player who has shown his quality at the highest level in the Champions League and the national team for a long peiod of time. We will really benefit from his experience."
