Barcelona have now found the perfect candidate to give Jordi Alba competition on the left side of defence. Jordi Alba will have to fight against a 22 year-old footballer who has just signed from Real Betis.
Although the move had stalled in the last few days waiting for Malcom to leave, Junior Firpo's move to Barcelona was a well known secret for a long time. Once the Brazilian striker moved to Zenit, the move was completed.
The footballer, who came through the Betis academy, said that it was a big desire of his go to Barcelona once negotiations began. In addition, Betis themselves had the goal of signing Borja Iglesias as soon as possible.
Junior becomes the fourth footballer to join Barcelona this summer after Frenkie de Jong, goalkeeper Neto and Antoine Griezmann.
All his life at Betis
For Junior Firpo, his new adventure as a Barcelona player will be more than special because he is a man that since his debut as a professional for Betis B, has not played for any other club.
The left-back made 76 appearances in the B team scoring eight goals before getting promoted to the first team in the 2017-18 season.
In that season, Junior made his debut against Villanovense in the cup, a game which Betis surprisingly lost. In his first La Liga game, against Deportivo in matchday 23, he gave an assist that was crucial to the result of the match.
Since then, Junior Firpo has played for the first team on 43 occasions, as well as being a starter on 41 of them. His quality in attack is shown with his five goals and seven assists.
