The 31 year old agreed a loan deal to Stamford Bridge from parent club Juventus on Wednesday evening, with the club themselves announcing their delight at the deal on social media. The Argentine spent the first half of the current season on loan at AC Milan, but after failing to settle into life at the San Siro, he jumped at the chance to join former Napoli boss Maurizzio Sarri in West London. Higuain left Milan after scoring just eight goals in all competitions.
A proven goal scorer during his career, the Argentine will be hoping that a reunion with former boss Sarri, can encourage him to re-find the form that saw him break the Serie A goal scoring record in with Napoli 2015-16, with an incredible 36 goals in 35 matches.
In the same vein, Chelsea will also be hoping that the striker hits the ground running upon his arrival in England, as current forwards Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have yet to hit their stride this season.
Director Marina Granovskaia spoke of her delight at finally securing the services of the forward. During Higuain's unveiling, Granovskaia stated: "Gonzalo was our number one target in this transfer window and arrives with a proven record at the highest level. He has previously worked with Maurizio to great effect and is familiar with how the coach likes to play. This was not an easy deal for us to do because of the numerous parties involved, but we are delighted we were able to make it happen and we look forward to seeing the impact Gonzalo will make for us in the second half of the season."
