Gonzalo Higuain is no longer a Juventus player. That is what the Italian club have announced. After four years at the club, including a couple of loan deals elsewhere, Higuain has left.
Higuain arrived at Juventus for 90 million euros in 2016, a record signing at that time. Both parties have agreed to terminate the contract. Inter Miami of MLS await. Former Juve man Blaise Matuidi plays there already.
The official statement is the following: "Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces the mutual termination of the contract with the player Gonzalo Gerardo Higuain. This operation generates a negative economic effect of approximately € 18.3 million on the 2019/2020 financial year due to the residual value write-down of the registration rights of the player," it begins.
"Juventus’ Board of Directors has been convened for tomorrow, 18 September 2020, to examine and approve the new draft financial statements as of 30 June 2020 in order to take into account the negative economic effect on the 2019/2020 financial year generated by the aforementioned contractual termination. The draft financial statements as of 30 June 2020 will be submitted to the Shareholders’ Meeting already called for 15 October 2020," the statement concludes.
It can be deduced that Higuain will receive some money for the little time that was left on his contract which was until 2021.
In any case, Higuain leaves Juventus after 149 appearances and 66 goals to his belt. However, he scored 91 goals for Napoli in three less appearances. He went out on loan to AC Milan and Chelsea without having much success there.
Last season he was in Turin and scored 11 goals as well as getting nine assists. At 32, it seems like his future lies in the USA in David Beckham's Inter Miami.
