OFFICIAL: Former Madrid defender Sergio Ramos becomes new Monterrey player

Spanish defender Sergio Ramos is now a new player for ‘Rayados’ of Monterrey, the Mexican club announced on social media on Thursday night. The club, where his compatriots Oliver Torres and Sergio Canales play, also confirmed that he will wear the number ‘93’.

The defender had been without a club since the end of last season with Sevilla, where he returned after two seasons at the Parc des Princes. His last official match was on 26 May 2024, in a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona.

The arrival of Ramos at Monterrey was led by Jose Antonio Noriega. The club's president travelled to Madrid to personally close the deal and, after learning of the signing, admitted that this addition is ‘a plus’ for teams that, like the Mexican, ‘want to transcend’, as he stated in ‘El País’.

The boss knows that his squad now has one of the most successful footballers in the world. However, the player from Camas has won four Champions League titles, six league titles, one World Cup and two European Cups, as well as being a legend at Real Madrid. The Merengue club itself commented on his arrival in Mexico.

"Sergio Ramos will play for C.F. Monterrey. The number chosen by a legend of our club: our 93rd minute. A tribute to all Madridismo, the memory of a moment that changed our history. We are always grateful. Best of luck and success," tweeted the club.
