Inter Miami FC, the team led by David Beckham and debuting in 2020, chose five players from a list of more than 200 after they were released by their respective MLS teams (Major League Soccer): Ben Sweat, Alvas Powell, Lee Nguyen, Luis Argudo and Bryan Meredith.
Sweat comes from New York City FC, where he has played for the past three seasons; Powell comes from FC Cincinatti; Nguyen was a Los Angeles FC midfielder and Luis Argudo held the same position on Columbus Crew, while Meredith was a goalkeeper for Seattle Sounders.
"We're delighted with how we've completed this step. We're gaining momentum before the 2020 season," said Inter Miami Sports Director Paul McDonough.

Inter Miami's debut will be on March 14 against Los Angeles Galaxy, where former British footballer David Beckham played from 2007 to 2012.
The game will be played at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, about 40 kilometers north of Miami, which will be its temporary home until the construction of the final stadium in Miami.

Inter Miami will hold its first two seasons in this provisional venue, while the Miami Beckham United group, to which the British and Cuban-American businessmen Jorge and José Mas belong, seeks to build the definitive one in Miami.

Beckham and ihis partners have a 25,000-seat stadium in mind, along with a commercial complex and public parks on the grounds of a golf course east of Miami International Airport.
The idea, which was approved by voters in a 2018 plebiscite, now awaits approval of the terms of the contract by the Miami council, which will discuss the issue on Dec. 12.
