OFFICIAL: Europa League 'final eight' in Germany
It's now official. The Europa League, the same as the Champions League, will be decided with a 'final 8' in just one country. It will be in Germany, with Cologne, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, and Gelsenkirchen as the main locations. The final will take place in Cologne.
The last 16 matches will take place on the 5th and 6th August, whose hosts are still to be confirmed. You have to bear in mind that there are still full knockout ties to be played, between Sevilla and Roma, and Getafe and Inter, both which will be one-legged ties. The quarter-finals will take place in Cologne, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, and Gelsenkirchen on 10th and 11th.
The semi-finals, whose hosts aren't decided either, will be the 16th and 17th of the same month. The final will be the 21st in Cologne. The last 16 games will always be played at 18:55 and 21:00. All the matches after the last 16 will be at 21:00.
The issue of there still being no decision on where the last 16 will be played has two possible resolutions. UEFA are considering whether the matches will take place at the teams' stadiums or also in Germany.
