Bayern Munich have confirmed this Sunday the signing of Dayot Upamecano. The central defender will join the Bavarian outfit on 1st July 2021 and pen a five year deal until 30th June 2026.
The German giants will pay Upamecano's buyout clause of 42 million euros. It is a big offer for a central defender who is set to lead their back line.
Hasan Salihamidzic announced it days back and now it is official. When asked by 'Bild', Bayern's sporting director said: "I can confirm it, we are very happy."
Now, he has gone into more detail: "We are happy to have been able to sign Dayot Upamecano for Bayern Munich. Dayot will be a very important bastion for our team in the coming years, we are convinced about thart."
Once it was revealed that David Alaba would leave in the summer, they quickly went to get a replacement in Upamecano. Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool were after him, but Bayern have got in there ahead of everyone.
He has three caps for France and played for all the age group categories. Upamecano is one of the central defenders with the brightest future in Europe. He is another player to start at Salzburg and then move to Leipzig at the age of 18.
Upamecano has played 139 games for RB Leipzig in the last four years and pulled off exhibitions like he showed against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last season. Those performances have seen Bayern Munich come calling.
