OFFICIAL: Barcelona seal Joan Garcia signing for €26.4m

Barcelona have made the signing of Joan Garcia official after lengthy negotiations marked by rivalry with Espanyol. The 24-year-old has signed a six-season contract, making him a future goalkeeper for the club.

Garcia said goodbye to the Espanyol fans with a sincere message: "I know that this decision will not be easy for everyone to understand. I'm not asking you to do so. But I do want you to know that it has been a very well thought-out decision, thinking not only about my career but also about what is best for the club, for my family and for me".

Last season, Joan Garcia was key to Espanyol's survival, making the most saves in LaLiga with 146. His performances did not go unnoticed and teams such as Arsenal and Newcastle both made enquiries before Barca closed the deal.

The contract ties the Catalan goalkeeper to the club until 30 June 2031, consolidating their commitment to home-grown talent. Garcia's arrival could lead to changes in the Barca goal, with Szczesny gaining weight and the continuity of Ter Stegen in doubt.
