Chelsea have confirmed versatile defender Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

Cesar Azplicueta has signed a new contract to commit his future to Chelsea to 2022, the Premier League club announced.

The popular Spaniard has made 298 appearances for the 'Blues' in all competitions since joining the club form Marseille in 2012 and it appears that there will be plenty more to come following his new deal.

A two-time Premier League winner during his time at the club, Azpilicueta was delighted to get his future sorted out, saying: "Since I came, I felt the joy and responsibility to play for this club, these fans.

"Every time I go on the pitch I try do my best. Hopefully there is a lot to come and we can keep Chelsea where it belongs."

The 29-year-old's previous deal was due to expire in 2020, with his this contract set to extend Azpilicueta's stay at the club to a decade should he see it all the way through.

"Cesar is one of our longest-serving players and has proven to be a fantastic acquisition over the past six years," said club director Maria Granovskaia.

"His professionalism and consistency in that time have been second to none and he has also developed into one of the squad's most influential players.

"This new contract will take Cesar to 10 seasons at Chelsea, and we hope that over the next four years he will be a key part of our success."

The new deal is believed to be worth in the region of £150,000 per week as the Spaniard joins N'Golo Kante and Marcos Alonso is committing his long-term future to the club.

The Pamplona-born defender has played in a variety of positions for Chelsea. After initially displacing Ashley Cole at left-back, he was later used on the right-hand side of a back three under Antonio Conte, before finally settling in his favoured right-back spot under Maurizio Sarri.
