No one at Atletico looks back to remember Courtois's time there. There's no need. Since Oblak arrived, the Slovenian has made such a positive impression that all other goalkeepers before him have been forgotten. His numbers back him up.
For four years, Jan Oblak has been LaLiga's lead goalkeeper, with the least goals conceded in the entire competition.
Scoring a goal against the Slovenian has practically become an impossible challenge. It is true that, in recent matches, Atletico have conceded more goals than usual, but Oblak will hope to return to a clean sheet.
Opposite, in the other goal, will be Thibaut Courtois. His start in LaLiga was not the best. The Belgian hopes to show what he is capable of in the Metropolitano.
In the vicinity of the Atletico stadium, Courtois has a plaque in his honour after more than 100 games with the Diego Simeone's team. On his last visit, the plaque was filled with stuffed rats... the same rats that were thrown at him before the match started. We'll have to see what the reception is like this weekend.
Oblak v. Courtois, Courtois v. Oblak. Two very different goalkeepers with the same objective: that not a single ball enters their respective goals.
