"O Jogo": Casillas to retire from football

It was a feasible possibility and, according to this publication, it will end up happening. As a result of the medical examinations he underwent after the heart attack he suffered, and which led him to spend several days in hospital, the Madrid goalkeeper would have opted for the decision a footballer never wants to make. 

Casillas himself would like to announce the decision imminently in a formal way, revealed the same sources.

With a contract in force in the Portuguese entity, it is President Pinto da Costa's wish that he continues to be linked to the club's structure. Today, it would be unclear what role Casillas would have, who seems willing to accept such a proposal.

In fact, in an interview published this Thursday, the Porto president revealed information both about his retirement and also about his continuity with the club.

"Casillas has one more year of contract and we want him to stay in Porto, and not just one more year. He is one of us and will always have a place in Porto," he said.

Despite the scare, Casillas can continue to lead a normal life, according to the player's entourage.  But the heart's warning and his age - he is about to turn 38 - were more important than the desire to continue playing football. 

Once he left the hospital where he was hospitalized, Casillas said he was not sure what was going to happen "in the future," but it seems that this is his decision.  

The perfect ending of his playing career for the former Real Madrid goalkeeper would be to  go through to win the Portuguese League, which will be resolved this Saturday with the dispute of the last day. However, Benfica are leading, with 84 points, with Porto just two behind. 

The Porto men need a miracle in order to lift the title,  as they both play at home, but Benfica do so with modest Santa Clara, while Iker's Porto host Sporting.
