Real Madrid start their defence of the league title. The reigning champions start the new season this Sunday night at Reale Arena against Real Sociedad at 21:00. Zidane and his players know that the way to stay ahead in the competition is the same way they did it in their brilliant final stretch of the previous season, in which they claimed ten consecutive wins until they won the league in the penultimate match of the season.
The debut of the Madrid side this season comes on the second day of matches after Real Madrid-Getafe was postponed because the teams both played in Europe during August.
'Los Blancos' come to the beginning of the season after a few demanding weeks of pre-season training. "We have prepared very well and we are looking forward to starting the League and defending our title", said Zidane at the press conference before the game at San Sebastian.
Zidane's first squad of the season is made up of 22 players. The aim of the Whites is to extend their unbeaten streak of 11 seasons in their debut to the league (8 wins and 3 draws).
Debut in San Sebastian
This is not the first time that Real Madrid have opened the league by visiting Real Sociedad. It happened in the 2016-17 season when Zidane ended up winning his first league title as manager, and in the 1981/82 and 1941/42 seasons. The team managed by Imanol Alguacil, who finished last season in sixth position, made their debut this year with a draw away to Valladolid on the first matchday.
