The world is full of terrible news stories at the moment because of the coronavirus and its consequences. This Thursday though the world of football woke up to a bit of good news.
Abdelhak Nouri was the protagonist of the main news of the day after his brother revealed two years and nine months after his cardiac arrest that the player is recovering.
"He is awake. He is in a house built specially for him. He is no longer in a coma. He sleeps, eats, frowns and burps, but he is very dependent," his brother Abderrahim told the programme 'DWDD'.
"You can sort of communicate with him. For example, lifting his eyebrows, through smiles... He doesn't get out of his bed, but it's lovely to have him again," he continued.
In the same programme, he spoke about some of those who were his teammates, like Donny van de Beek and Frenkie de Jong, the current Barcelona player.
The Barcelona midfielder revealed that Nouri was key to De Jong choosing Ajax at that time. "I had offers from Ajax and PSV and he spoke to me a lot that summer to go to Amsterdam. De Jong also explained how he told Nouri that he was moving to Barcelona.
"I was with him, his mother came in and asked him where I should play in the future. When she said to him Barcelona, he lifted his eyebrow in response. It was a very special moment," he said.
It is worth rembering that Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest in July 2017 during a friendly against Werder Bremen. Now, almost three years later, it seems like there is finally a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
