Nine players at the Bernabeu have their RM careers in doubt, as the club looks to facilitate the deal for PSG's Kylian Mbappe. Their joint departure would theoretically open a wage gap of around 126 million euros, an amount that would allow the club to match the star's exorbitant demands.
'AS' revealed the players that could find themselves on the way out of Real Madrid in this deal. They are Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale, Raphael Varane, Marcelo, Alvaro Odriozola, Isco, Mariano, Luka Jovic and Dani Ceballos. Some players would aliviate more weight than others, in terms of their current salaries.
Ramos, Bale, Marcelo and Varane would offload the biggest amount. The centre-back continues to await a decision regarding his contract renewal or potential departure from 'Los Blancos', with an agreement still yet to be reached. The Welshman, after his loan spell at Tottenham, is waiting to know how much he will feature in the plans of new manager Ancelotti. The Frenchman has fallen out of favour in times gone by and the Brazilian could put an end to his long and decorated spell in the Spanish capital.
In other times, Madrid may have been able to afford to keep on such players while at the same time bringing in Mbappe. However, the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus has been extended to the Santiago Bernabeu, which could still be unfinished for the start of the 2021/22 season, meaning the club are now having to be even more prudent with their finances.
