With one game in hand, Atlético Madrid are ten points clear of FC Barcelona at the halfway point of LaLiga. That gap, should they win their remaining game, would rise to 13 points. An almost insurmountable gap that can be seen with a certain comparison: that of Luis Suárez and Martin Braithwaite.
The Uruguayan striker, after six successful seasons with the Azulgranas, moved on this summer against his will and headed for the Wanda Metropolitano where he is proving decisive. Quite the opposite of Martin Braithwaite who, almost unwillingly, found himself with a lot of minutes at Barca. And he is not taking advantage of them.
So far, so far in the league competition, the Uruguay international has 12 goals to his name. They have earned a total of nine extra points for Cholo Simeone's side.
Meanwhile, the Dane has only managed to score on two occasions and his goals could have been entirely dispensable: one in the 4-0 thrashing of Osasuna and the other in the emphatic 3-0 win over Valladolid.
Those nine extra points that Suárez has given explain the big difference in the standings between the two sides, something that makes the 'culé' fans long for a 'Pistolero' who, who knows how many extra points he could have given to his former team this season.
