Al-Hilal striker Neymar, who is recovering from a knee injury, lashed out on Saturday at those who "spread hate" on the Internet, commenting on a tragic event in Brazil.
"To the haters, you who spread hate; to those who know everything, owners of the truth, the saints who are never wrong: congratulations, you have made one more victim," the Brazil star said on his Instagram profile.
Neymar made this reference to the death of a 22-year-old woman who was the victim of a hoax that went viral on the Internet, pointing to the woman as the alleged lover of Brazilian comedian Whindersson Nunes. The Civil Police registered the case as a possible suicide.
The former Santos, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player said that "gossip" websites, as well as "TV networks" and, in general, "all the media" have to "be very careful with what they publish". "The discourse of respecting others does not exist on the Internet," the 31-year-old claimed.
He added: "I really hate all those people who hide behind a profile to talk badly about someone else. Wanting to be the first to spread the news can kill someone's life, not everyone is mentally strong."
Neymar is recovering in Brazil from a torn cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee suffered on 17 October during the 2026 World Cup South American qualifier against Uruguay in Montevideo.
