There is still uncertainty over football. We still do not know how the 2019-20 season will end, but competition organisers are already thinking about the 2020-21 campaign.
Therefore, UEFA have hinted that there could be changes for next season. 'The Times' says that the next edition of the Champions League could be a shorter one. Qualifying rounds could be removed and that could see teams missing out on the chance of playing in the tournament.
According to the British paper, the lower ranked teams who were due to play in the qualifying rounds could miss out on the competition altogether. UEFA would financially compensate those affected.
If the conclusion of the 2019-20 season keeps on getting delayed, UEFA will have to shorten their competitions for next season. There is no extra time at the next season because of the Euros and Copa America.
The European organisation have not ruled out playing some of the qualifying rounds over one leg and the non-Champions path could be eliminated completely.
If that were to be the case, Eduardo Camavinga, who had hinted that he would stay at Rennes if the French side were in the Champions League, could miss out on the chance to play in it. Rennes were third in the French league and are in the play-off round, the round before the group stage.
If this happened, the youngster would have all the more reason to leave the club. Real Madrid as well as other top clubs have been interested in him for months.
