TEAM NEWS:
Newcastle: Defensive duo Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark are both doubts with hip and ankle problems respectively and will face late fitness tests to determine their involvement. Jonjo Shelvey is expected to return in midfield with Ki Sung-yeung away at the Asian Cup.
Manchester United: Alexis Sanchez has returned from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him since November and he will be involved in some capacity. He could be joined in attack by Marcus Rashford, who is expected to be fit despite limping off in the victory over Bournemouth at the weekend. There could be problems at the back, though, with both Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo sidelined and Eric Bailly suspended.
WHO IS SAYING WHAT?
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez:
"Someone has to win some of these games, you know it will be tough.
"The target will be at the end of January if we are out of the bottom three, then that will be good news."
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Alexis Sanchez:
"He will be involved [at Newcastle], yes. He wants to play all the time, he's one of those characters. He has not had enough fitness work but he is champing at the bit.
"I think Alexis is a player that would benefit from the interchanging, rotation and movements and, of course, more chances. If we create more chances and get the ball in the final third, he will be an asset for us."
