Newcastle boss Eddie Howe confirms Wilson has undergone chest surgery

Newcastle appear to have been cursed with injuries this season, after they were hit with an unexpected blow when Callum Wilson had to undergo surgery, joining the Magpies' growing list of absentees. 

The bad news was confirmed by England manager Eddie Howe at his side's pre-match press conference ahead of their Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth. The British manager explained that after a late tussle in their win over Nottingham Forest, they thought the 31-year-old striker had injured his shoulder, but in the end it was a chest injury.

"It’s a really strange injury, a tussle right at the end of the game. Initially we thought it was his shoulder, but it is a muscle in his pec, his pectoral muscle. He went to see a specialist and he is having it operated on as we speak. It is a big blow; I really feel for him. We hope he will be back before the end of the season," he confirmed.

Wilson has been a great asset to Eddie Howe this season, making 22 appearances so far, scoring eight goals and assisting one despite making just 11 starts.
