Newcastle await work permit for Japan international
Muto has already agreed personal terms and a £9.5m switch from Bundesliga side, Mainz 05, however Newcastle are being made to wait for international clearance and a work permit before the striker's signing can be confirmed.
Muto joined Mainz from FC Tokyo in 2015 for £2.5m and quickly made a name for himself scoring 20 times in 66 Bundesliga matches.
Muto also featured once for Japan during this summer's World Cup, helping his nation reach the Round of 16.
Muto, 26, has been described as is a versatile forward who can adapt to play in several attack-minded positions.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez wants Muto to provide attacking competition to the likes of Ayoze Perez and Joselu, as Aleksandar Mitrović is expected to depart the club this transfer window.
